KITKA: Wintersongs

The Arcata Playhouse invites you to experience glorious harmonies and fantastic sonic sensations with Kitka, performing Wintersongs, on December 20th. Kitka is an award-winning women’s vocal arts ensemble, bringing to life traditional songs and vocal techniques from Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Experience ravishing textures, unearthly cadences, angular rhythms and unfamiliar languages, while celebrating the season with centuries-old vocal traditions. Wintersongs showcases material ranging from rousing Slavic folk carols to lush, meditative Eastern Orthodox sacred choral works… from pre-Christian incantations for the longest nights of the year to Medieval Sephardic Chanukah songs to original new pieces inspired by the beauty and mystery of wintertime.
