Humboldt Rose Society

Do you grow roses? Now is the time to prune. Learn how on Saturday, February 1 at 10 am at Humboldt Botanical Garden in Eureka. The Humboldt Rose Society (HRS) is providing the rose pruning demonstration at no cost; however, if you are not a Botanical Society member there is a $10 entrance fee. The Humboldt Rose Society's rosarians, master rose growers, will explain and show how to correctly prune roses. The Humboldt Botanical Garden is located at 7707 Tompkins Hill Rd., Eureka (at north end of College or the Redwoods north parking lot), (707) 499-3133. There are two more demonstrations on Saturday mornings starting at 10 a.m., and Fortuna Ace Hardware and Nursery would appreciate (but does not require) a call so that adequate seating will be available. Feb. 8, HRS Rose Garden, Redwood Acres, 3750 Harris St., Eureka (Located near north entrance) Feb. 15, Fortuna Ace Hardware and Nursery, 140 S. Fortuna Blvd., Fortuna, (707) 725-8647 This pruning demonstration at the HRS garden at Redwood Acres is "hands on" with participants practicing in a real garden, one on one, with an expert. At this event, pruners are sharpened at no charge. Time for general questions about rose selection and maintenance is included during the demonstration.
