Humboldt Bay Brass Band
“Legends of Brass”: After 5 separate brass quintets perform familiar tunes from Hoagy Carmichael to Brubeck and the Beatles (including a Humboldt-centric song), the full 25 member Humboldt Bay Brass Band plus three percussionists play Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture,” Broughton’s “California Legends” (conducted by recent HSU grad Audrey McCombs) and another local composer’s work, Frank Flowers’ “Redwood Highway.” The evening ends with a blast from brass past—a tune by the classic 1970s band Chicago. Directed by Gil Cline, produced by HSU Music department.
