GMO Free Humboldt-Yes on Measure P presents Dr. Ray Seidler
(Hors d’oeuvres by Sweet Basil Catering at 6:00. Presentation begins at 6:30) Dr. Ramon (Ray) Seidler is a retired microbiologist. Dr. Seidler spent 16 years as a professor of microbiology at Oregon State University and 17 years as a senior research scientist and team leader at the US Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Seidler has authored or co- authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and three books. While at the EPA, Dr. Seidler wrote the first GMO biosafety research plan and conducted extensive research on GMOs. Among many other honors and awards, Dr. Seidler was elected as a Fellow of the American Academy for Microbiology and twice received the US EPA’s Bronze Medal for research service to the agency. Measure P is on the Humboldt County ballot this November. Measure P is a carefully targeted ordinance which pertains only to the growing or raising of GMOs and will not affect the sale or consumption of food with GMO ingredients. However, news of the measure has made lots of local residents curious about the broader issues surrounding GMOs. Therefore, in the interest of public education, the Committee for a GMO Free Humboldt - Yes on Measure P is helping to bring these distinguished speakers to Humboldt County to talk about various aspects of the broader GMO debate.
