Evoling African Culture

Laura Hennings of Eureka will offer some observations on evolving African culture at a forum scheduled at noon Sept. 28 at the Samoa Cookhouse. Hennings spent three weeks in a remote village, Ipalawma, in Tanzania in March. The forum, held by North Coast Mensa, is open to the public. Lunch is no-host Her presentation is titled "An Intimate Look at Rural Africa's Evolving Culture. will share her personal observations, stories and lessons learned that profoundly altered the way she now views evolving African culture and how that might influence American culture today. Hennings taught in California, Washington, England and Utah. Here in Humboldt County, I was a Resource Specialist at Zane, Winship, and Alive Birney. I taught Junior College classes as well as Special Education at various high schools, junior high schools and one elementary for over 30 years. She is also a singer and song writer. She co-founded the musical groups The Soulful Sidekicks and The Topaz Trio. Currently she sings Jazz Standards, mostly at Morris Graves for the Wine and Jazz Concerts, but also does special concerts when she finds something she would like to focus on musically. Last year (and this year), Hennings presented a tribute concert featuring Leonard Cohen songs.
