Criminal Justice Art Show

Art show about incarceration invites community to create change Humboldt County (Eureka, CA) Throughout March a free public art show titled "From the Inside Looking Out and the Outside Looking In" will present creative contributions from the incarcerated of Humboldt County Correctional Facility, and community members. This month-long event invites community members to examine artwork depicting the lives of inmates behind bars and upon release, created by those on the inside and outside. In collaboration with the Criminal Justice Dialogue and Reentry Fair, the art show aims to bring awareness to the internal struggles and external obstacles faced by the incarcerated, act as a platform of outreach to recognize and reduce stigma surrounding incarceration, and to discuss the improvement of social services for the formerly and currently incarcerated within the community. The art show also hopes to bring people together to ignite thoughtful discussion and create collaborative change throughout the community. The artwork will be exhibited in two locations: Arcata's HealthSPORT and Eureka's Synapsis Nova. Following the opening at Arts Alive in Synapsis Nova, a free cabaret performance featuring music, theater, and aerial dance will explore the ways in which prison affects the lives of those incarcerated and those on the outside.
