At 17, Megan (Natasha Lyonne) is confident, opinionated, and far too strong willed for her unsupportive parents. Living the average American life, Megan is a star cheerleader with a boyfriend who is the captain of the football team, you could say things are going quite well for her. During all of this her parents begin to notice what they view as strange things occurring in Megan’s life. She doesn’t really enjoy kissing her boyfriend, she’s very tactile with her other female cheerleader friends, has nothing but photos of other women in her locker room and home, also... she listens to Melissa Etheridge. All of these factors lead her parents and friends to the conclusion that Megan is undoubtedly a lesbian. Concerned for her well being they ship her off to “True Directions”, a gay-gone-straight camp led by the well-meaning yet totally insane Mary (Cathy Moriarty) and the "ex-gay" counselor Mike (RuPaul).
