Bulgarika
The virtuosic Balkan band, "Bulgarika", will present a concert of traditional Bulgarian songs and instrumentals on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Arcata Playhouse, 1251 9th Street in Arcata. Tickets are $12 general / $10 student and seniors. The band is led by husband and wife team, Nikolay and Donka Kolev, award-winning performers from folk music conservatories in Bulgaria. They are joined by Vassil Bebelekov and Dragi Dragnev, instrumental specialists in the Bulgarian bagpipe, shepherd's flute, large drum as well as keyboards. The band will also lead a workshop in how to sing and play Bulgarian music on the next day, Wednesday at 7 p.m. Location will be posted on the Humboldt Folk Dancers' website.
