Lisa Baney Trio

Join us for Northern California Views, Saturday April 5, 6-9pm, in our Living Room Gallery

Photographs by Ginny Dexter, paintings by Anita Tavernier, music by the Lisa Baney Trio, and our 2nd Anniversary PARTY!!

Dexter will be opening her show of nature photography, in a special exhibit that will be her first showing of photography on large canvas. She concentrates her eye and lens mostly on Northern California’s beautiful wildlife and landscape. Ginny is an avid hiker and photographer. She enjoys exploring and sharing the wonder of nature in her photography. “I love the diversity of beauty in Humboldt. Where else can you live in a temperate climate, where there are redwoods, dunes, bays, lagoons, wildlife refuges, sloughs, wetlands and miles and miles of unspoiled beaches and rivers?” She hopes to see you at MikkiMoves for Art’s Alive.

Joining Dexter’s photographs will be original oil paintings by Anita Tavernier. Known for her watery themes, this show represents the last 4 years of her work, with an emphasis on her love of water: being in it, beside it, on it. Under the supervision of Hans Spek, whom she considers her own personal Dutch Master, she has found a powerful, personal new medium to express her fascination with the north coast. She has also been exploring travel, nature and landscape photography for over 30 years, digital art for over 15 years, carving and dying Hawaiian gourds, and watercolor painting, including the opportunity to study with the late Virginia Sutherland.

Jazz singer Lisa Baney came up in the small jazz and after-hours clubs of San Francisco in the 70s and 80s. Early on she studied with the legendary jazzer Mark Murphy, and then went on to front bands in both the U.S. and Europe, sharing the stage with performers as diverse as Luci Arnaz and Kenny Rankin. With the release of her first CD the San Francisco Chronicle music critic Gerald Nachman described her as “pure, lithe, warmly burnished…a classic polished jazz singer.” Accompanying Baney is KEN LAWRENCE on bass and STEVE SMITH on piano.
