Since 1999, Transgender Day of Remembrance has been observed annually on Nov. 20 to give space to remember and honor individuals who’ve lost their lives as a result of transphobic violence.
Locally, members of Humboldt’s LGBTQ+ community and their supporters will gather for their own vigil Sunday 5 p.m. in front of the Humboldt County Courthouse. Candles will be provided.
In advance of the gathering, the Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence -- the event's organizers -- issued a release Sunday morning addressing last night's mass shooting in Colorado Springs:
