TUESDAY LOWDOWN: Goofy Song Parodies for Peace and Social Justice in Arcata

“Sometimes I think satire is the most hopeful and heartfelt form of expression,” says veteran politically minded song machine Roy Zimmerman, “because in calling out the world's absurdities and laughing in their face, I'm affirming the real possibility for change.”

Zimmerman writes song parodies. Like, a lot of them. Just glancing through his various online properties it seems like he has a new ditty out every few days or so in response to the latest Washington tug-of-war.

For example: You’ve heard the song “Old Man River,” yes? Aha! Well, you see, Zimmerman needed a way to stick it to Mitch McConnell over this whole Senate healthcare/“wealthcare” bill thing so he penned “Old Man Fibber,” (!!!) which you can hear below and/or (most likely) tonight when Zimmerman peddles his parodies at the Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Arcata. Details on that show and other Tuesday distractions in your Lowdown listings farther down. —AG
