(VIDEO) The Best of Humboldt Fair Starts Today and There are Sharks

Maybe you still haven’t reprogrammed your brain to not refer to it as the “Redwood Acres Fair” — it’s still difficult for us, every year — but try not to let that stand in the way of getting your Americana on for the next four days when the Best of Humboldt Fair brings you the “best” of local food, performers, arts and crafts. And yes, there will be tangles of curly fries as big as your head which good etiquette requires you to consume before you get on the Zipper. No cheating.

In addition to all the local goodness, returning spectacles include Nature Joe’s Animal Exhibit, magician Steve the Pretty Good and The Pirate Parrot Show. New this year: Can’t make it to Sea World this summer? You may have a similar reaction to watching some sharks in a small, mobile glass tank -- right here in Eureka! -- during the Haai Live Shark Encounter. Here’s what that looks like:

All right! The Best of Humboldt Fair Gates open at 11 a.m., Thursday through Sunday. Head on over to Redwood Acres Fairgrounds’ website for a complete entertainment rundown. More Thursday whee in your Lowdown listings below. —AG
