Say you have a rough Wednesday and end up looking for a place to tie one on. (Say that!) Hey, you’d be in luck, this week, as there are numerous beer-centered Humboldt gatherings to numb thee. Sip/eat up some Beer and Buffet offering at Humboldt Brews featuring offerings from Caldera Brewing Company and music by Chris Parreira and Jeff Kelley; or there’s the latest Pints for Nonprofits at Redwood Curtain Brewing Company, this time benefitting First 5 Humboldt; also it’s Sci-Fi Pint and Pizza Night at the Arcata Theatre Lounge where they’re screening Death Machines (1976) — check out a trailer for that joy above. Feel better?
Like to get lost in sound? Wednesday’s most promising musical offering for you would have to be Ensemble Economique at The Miniplex. While Brian Pyle, the group’s main creative force is Humboldt-based, it’s still comparatively rare to catch EE’s sparse, synthy soundscapes locally as they’ve found grateful ears outside the Redwood Curtain. Sample the drone below. --AG
