What Humboldt is Doing For Thanksgiving

OK, turkey. Since you're here we'll note a few out-of-the-house Thanksgiving day Humboldt gatherings you can participate in after you're banished from your grandparents' place for disparaging Trump's cabinet picks:
- Before you stuff yourself into uselessness, consider the community cardio available during the annual Turkey Trot, a 5K run/walk starting at the Old Town Gazebo at 9 a.m. (Signups at OTC&C start at 7:30 a.m.)
- As is tradition, local faith leaders invite y'all to gather at Trinidad Head Memorial Lighthouse to assist in asking that the deity of your choosing grant a bountiful fishing season during the Blessing of the Fleet. Classic country songs by Redwood Ramblers, even! (10 a.m.)
- Why should only humans pack on the holiday pounds? The residents of the Sequoia Park Zoo will have something to be thankful for when they receive special nom-ables during Thanksgiving at the Zoo (open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.).

Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse

This is a family-friendly, community event. Axel Lindgren III and his family will give a traditional Native blessing facing to the four directions followed by a non-denominational blessing from Pastor Allison Berry from the Church of the Joyful Healer.
Arcata Community Center

"Open to everyone in the community, please join us for a celebration with live music throughout the day, as well as a delicious home-cooked meal."
