: What Humboldt Can Do on Halloween

Everyone wants a piece of that Saturday Halloween action. All Hallows' Eve hellions, be sure to scroll today’s Lowdown as there is no shortage of mischief for you to pursue tonight. Sure, Humboldt Halloween at the Portuguese Hall is technically sold out, but you could still snatch up tickets to George Clinton at Blue Lake Casino. There are also swell musical offerings at HumCo's most reliable joystops — Soul Fright at HumBrews, Teach Me Equals at The Jam, The Pine Box Boys at Six Rivers Brewery and The Trouble/Companion Animal double bill at The Palm Lounge to name a few.

Note: If you're drunk and belligerent (it happens), the Arcata Plaza is no place to test yourself.

What about the children? May they trick and/or treat? If you have produced offspring, Eureka and Arcata are both candy goldmines.

And as far as specifically Halloweenie events for adults, do recall that the Haunted Kinetic Lab of Horrors will run from 7 to midnight at the corner of Eighth and N Streets in Arcata. The night also offers your only chance to board the haunted 1091 Ghost Ship. The decks of the 71 year old Navy vessel will be decked out with creepy decor, but the real selling point is the ship’s less than wholesome history:

“The ship is haunted by a former radio operator that served aboard during the vessels navy career. The radio operator committed suicide in the radio room after he was implicated in thievery of navy property. The bullet hole is still visible in the ceiling of the room and will be one of the highlights of the evening.”

Happy Halloween! The ship is docked at the foot of Commercial Street in Eureka and will be open from 6-10 p.m. $5 is all it costs to become a permanent (oops) temporary crew member. Plenty of more frightful delights in your HalLowdown below.
