Lowdown: Veterans' Day, Jazz in Arcata

Here on the Internet we understand that it is unlikely that you have seen the words “happy” “veterans’” and “day” in succession yet today. So let LoCO be the first to say Happy Veterans’ Day to you! Please note that Humboldt hath provided you pair of sizable commemorative events — at the Adorni Recreation Center and the Fortuna Veterans Hall. Also, remember that KHSU will be airing the second part of its Echoes of War documentary.

Have you, publicly or privately, thanked someone for their service yet? Get on it!

As far as your more traditional, musical Lowdown fare, the Arcata Playhouse and Redwood Jazz Alliance have put together a hot show tonight — so good you can also catch it Thursday. Drummer Scott Amendola has beefed up his usual trio to to make a super quintet that now includes Jenny Scheinman on violin and Nels Cline on guitar. Check out his stickwork, in trio form with additional bandmembers John Shifflett and Jeff Parker, in the clip below. --AG
