Obviously the highest profile musical offering coming at you this Humboldt Monday is undervalued musical, eh… OK “legend” John Prine. In an over four decade career, Prine has earned himself status as one of America’s great under-the-radar songwriters. Where do people of that ilk peddle their ditties? At the Van Duzer Theatre, of course.
So, there’s that. But if a trip to the JVD is somehow always outside your financial grasp, let the Lowdown direct you to the indie/weird band cluster invading Richard’s Goat tonight consisting of R.ariel, Blood Gnome, Venus Milk and Captain Captain. Promo material for headliner R.ariel contains some precious praise attributed to Brian Eno in which he characterizes her sound as “what nostalgia feels like. Or a memory. This piece has an illusive serenity to it which fills the room.”
