If You Can Beat Super Mario Bros. Really Fast, Go To HumBrews Tonight (VIDEO)

There's a few out-and-about options of note Tuesday night. Looks like they're launching a poetry series at the library. There's a couple earnest bands at the Palm. If you think you're funny, they'll totally let you get onstage at Jambalaya.

Those things are fine, even if similar gatherings have happened before. But to your Lowdown's recollection, there's never been a public Super Mario Bros. Speedrun Contest in the county like the 8-bit bloodsport they're hosting at HumBrews tonight. (Note: The term "speedrun" in the videogame lexicon refers to the practice of attempting to beat a given video game in the shortest possible time. If you did not know that, you are not a nerd.)

The Mario marathon is but one aspect of the Adventure Tribe DJ night featuring sets by The Hand of Doctor Foxmeat paints a Monochramatic Rainbow, Pressure/Anya, Wrye and others. If you'd like to brush up on your goomba-stomping, the fastest Mario Bros. time we could find on YouTube is the 4:57 run posted below.

May your princess not be in another castle, HumCo.
