Pick a day

Thursday, June 6, 2013's Lowdown

Well, the Lowdown's pick for Thursday night vibrancy has gotta be the Accident Slam at Siren's Song. But we already did that. So ...

Looking ahead to Friday, the Arcata Theatre Lounge will again host Ocean Night this month featuring the world premiere of Great White Encounter: The Scott Stephens Story. As you'll recall, on Oct. 30 of last year Stephens was nearly fatally attacked by a shark while surfing in Humboldt's icy waters (luckily, after surgeries, he walked away with only some gnarly scars.) Surf fame followed. Hell, you can see Scott's board hanging on the wall at Lost Coast Brewery.

Now local filmmakers Michael McClimon, Ted Okell, Jennifer Bell and Robert Stoneman have put together a 40-minute documentary with interviews with Stephens, his friends and medical professionals who assisted the bitten surfer that October day. Watch a short trailer below.

Again, the film debuts tomorrow. For more on what Thursday holds for Humboldt, scroll your Lowdown farther down this page.
