Post-Sarcoma Week Wrap-up
Listener David, avid cyclist, local guy and good dude, is combining insane athleticism with a great cause, so read on!
With much of my last year and a half spend receiving treatments, chemo, radiation, and major surgery to fight sarcoma I felt like I also needed to do something more proactive to combat this rare form of cancer.
As many of you know cycling is a passion of mine. I decided to use my passion to help raise funds for sarcoma specific research and clinical trials as well as awareness of this disease. I have set up a website that describes three cycling events that I am involved in as part of International Sarcoma Week.
Event one is already completed with my riding from Seattle to Portland (202 miles) over Saturday and Sunday last weekend. This was a big step for me being the longest ride I have done since February 2009 (just before my tumor was discovered). I leave shortly for my next event, Race Across Oregon where I will be crew for a racer going 535 miles in under 48 hours.I invite you to follow the race's progress at my website www.TeamRavenLunatics.com where my twitter text post and pictures from the race will be linked. Or you can follow the twitter post directly from my Twitter ID "bradleydr". The above listed website has a description of the 3 events with my big event being a race in October. There are also links to the Team Sarcoma website and lots of information regarding sarcoma. Sarcoma is a rare cancer making up only 1% of all cancers. As such is doesn't receive a lot of funding for research. The Liddy Shirver Sarcoma Initiative is doing a great job of providing grants for clinical trials. The Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative is a small, dedicated, all-volunteer organization. They maintain an extremely low overhead of 2-3% per year. Thus, 97-98% of the funds we receive go directly to support sarcoma research. If you are interested in making a donation to the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative you can download a donation form here http://teamravenlunatic.com/PDF/Donate%20Now.pdf or donate directly online athttp://www.sarcomahelp.org/donations.htm (be sure include that the donation is in support of David Bradley).

Road Rash, Facial Edition
According to a press release from Eureka Police Department:
Man Crashes Bicycle - Booked for DUI on a Bike
On 7/19/10 at about 11:09p.m. the Eureka Police Department received a report of a man laying in the roadway near a bicycle in the 900 block of Harris Street. Officers responded and found a man, later identified as Kirk BALLEGEER of Eureka, laying in the street bleeding from the head.
It appeared as if he had crashed his bicycle in the street and hit his head on the pavement. He was not wearing a helmet. There was no evidence of any other vehicle being involved in the collision.
EFD and City Ambulance personnel responded to the scene and evaluated Ballegeer. He was transported by ambulance to St Joseph Hospital where he was treated and released for minor head injuries.
Ballegeer was subsequently booked into the Humboldt County Correctional facility for drunk driving on a bike and violation of probation.

People Singing As Birds, Sort Of
Check THIS out.
This guy, Marcus Coates, recorded birds singing. Then he slowed the recording down enough for humans to imitate it.
Then, he videotaped the humans imitating the slowed-down birds, and sped it back up to bird speed.
Here's how they did it.
Hat tip to listener Scott in Garberville for turning us on to it.
