Chas Lewis / Thursday, June 2, 2016 @ 8:34 p.m. / Culture , Music

It's a birthday convergence with three blues and soul heavyweights, all born on June 3rd.

Left to Right
Jimmy Rogers is best known as the 2nd guitarist in Muddy Waters' 50s combo and under-appreciated as a major architect of the Chicago blues tradition.   Memphis Minnie, Queen of the Country Blues, Hoodoo Lady and influential guitarist who helped shape the roots of electric Chicago blues, as well as R&B and rock ‘n’ roll, long before she plugged in.   Curtis Mayfield was an innovative voice for freedom and change as a songwriter, helped pioneer funk and was responsible for some of the finest soul vocal recordings of the 60s.
