Today on Coastal Currents, we're joined by Bridget Hand, Assistant Manager of Center Activities and Lori Turbes, a representative from Sierra Rescue.
As a reminder, we would like to discuss our upcoming summer aquatics programming, especially our Youth and Teen Aquatics Camps and Programs, as well as our weekly paddling opportunities at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center. Our camps are a great opportunity for youth to learn valuable kayaking, stand up paddling, rafting and sailing skills, general water safety, as well as teamwork and leadership skills that will last a lifetime! We have scholarships available, so we want to make sure to highlight this fact.
The Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center is also a great location to learn boating skills and explore the marine environment of Humboldt Bay. We have weekly Family Fun Days and other weekly guided paddling opportunities in addition to affordable kayak, canoe and SUP rentals. Our goal with HBAC programming is to provide affordable and accessible opportunities for our community to come out, learn about and play on our beautiful bay.
The other area of programming we are hoping to highlight is our upcoming Swiftwater and River Rescue Certification courses. Lori, the representative from Sierra Rescue, can speak on the differences between the two courses and who might benefit from each opportunity.
Its is also National Safe Boating Week May 17 - 23 which ties in nicely to these topics.
