Also on this week's show: somebody chopped down one of the controversial billboards on the 101 safety corridor, reports the Mad River Union. The county issued a stop-work order on its repair, reading:

REPAIR OR DEMOLITION OF BILLBOARDS WILL REQ. A BUILDING PERMIT FROM THE BUILDING DEPT. AND APPROVALS FROM THE PLANNING DEPT.

The billboard was currently advertising Bailey Mortgage and was owned by CBS.

Lastly, Whales! Jeff Jacobsen will give an engaging evening talking about the sights & sounds & life history of local cetofauna, mainly gray, humpback, and killer whales, blues, sperm whales... harbor porpoise, and a bit on those warmer water dolphin and porpoise species, then sperm whales. He'll also introduce you to hydrophones!

The event is Monday Jan 13 at 6PM at the HSU Aquatic Center in Eureka.  (next to the Adorni Center). Check out explorenorthcoast.com for more info.
