Tonight's Cocktail - Strawberry Cooler

Happy Earth Day to one and all. Tonight during The Cocktail Hour (6pm) we'll honor our beautiful planet with the delightful strawberry cooler. How does this honor mother Earth, you might ask? Well, it doesn't really, but if you use organic ingredients as much as possible and you use strawberries out of your own garden, that will at least irritate some climate deniers, so that's a start.

The ingredient list is somewhat lengthy and somewhat esoteric, so feel free to substitute as necessary.

2 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. French (dry) vermouth
1 1/2 oz. fresh organic strawberry puree
3/4 oz. fresh organic Meyer lemon juice (or substitute 3/4 oz. fresh organic normal lemon juice)
3/4 oz. rich simple syrup
1 dash rose water
1 1/2 oz. seltzer

Garnish: lemon wheel and fresh mint bouquet (both organic)

Combine all ingredients, except seltzer, and shake briefly to incorporate.  Add seltzer to shaker tin and strain all ingredients into an ice-filled Collins glass (note: photo does not show a proper Collins glass). Garnish

For the strawberry puree: Remove the tops from 1 pint of fresh organic strawberries and blend until smooth. Push through a sieve into a clean jar and store refrigerated for up to 1 week.
