KHUM's Favorites at Oyster Fest

It was another fun year judging at the Arcata Bay Oyster Festival. In addition to the Main Street awards, KHUM gives out it's awards for favorite Cook Oyster, Raw Oyster and Non Oyster. The judging is always blind. We never know who is providing the delicacies. They are numbered and we vote on Flavor, Presentation and Originality. Only after once we tally the results is it relieved who's they were. This year was a first; one restaurant swept all 3 of our categories! That restaurant was Sushi Spot! It should be noted that Sushi Spot also took Best of the Festival from Arcata Main Street. Way to go guys!
Their first win was their raw oyster. A Goose point oyster with sesame-wasabi vinaigrette, green onions, mandarin orange and wasabi infused tobiko. Beautifully plated, very original and absolutely delicious! This was my personal favorite.
Next was their cooked entry. This was a barbecued pacific oyster with shiso pesto, comprised of sesame, garlic, macadamia nuts, Japanese mint and Togarashi spices.
Looked good, was quite original and tasted great!
KHUM's favorite non-oyster also came from Sushi Spot. It was Island poke with fresh Ahi tuna, pineapple and avocado, marinated in sesame, ginger, poke sauce and served with wakame, yuzu tobiko, spices and onions.
This looked good but the flavor was amazing! Sorry we have no picture of that one. Speaking of pictures, that you to Andrew Goff (Lost Coast Outpost) for providing the pictures.
