I recognize that not everyone loves the venerable Egg Nog, but then almost no one even vaguely likes
Rumpleminze and grapefruit, and I had that as the featured cocktail on one ill-advised occasion. So, in recognition of this joyous time of the year, tonight on The Cocktail Hour, we will feature the lovely Egg Nog.
For the specific recipe, we turn to one Amy Berkowitz, who makes the best Egg Nog I've ever tasted. Here's her recipe:
(Makes a lot)
+/- 2 cups Sugar
1 Tsp vanilla extract (not imitation)
1/2 Gal Whipping Cream
1 Gal Whole Milk
Whiskey or Brandy
Beat eggs and sugar in a stand mixer until it forms pale yellow ribbons.
Add Vanilla and mix
With mixer on low add Whipping Cream and increase speed
Pour mixture into punch bowl,
Add milk and mix
Pour a shot (or more) Whiskey or Brandy into a glass. Add eggnog mixture. Top with freshly grated nutmeg.
(Remember, the calories don't count between Thanksgiving and New Year)
*note: you can use pasteurized eggs if you have any health concerns
