Jack Crider moved here from the Port of Astoria because it's a "sunnier locale." 

So he's not a weatherman. But he brings a fountain of enthusiasm to his new role, and is quick to wax optimistic about the bay's rich biological resources. 

His short-term wish for the bay? "Just one good dock." Humboldt Bay's docks are too small, outdated, and not efficiently laid out, he says.
