Wildflower Sow
The North Coast Chapter of the California Native Plant Society invites the public to view wildflowers at the Jefferson Community Center, 1000 B St., Eureka, Friday May 3rd (2 to 8 p.m.) and Saturday May 4th and Sunday 5th (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Admission is free, and the building is ADA accessible.
Hundreds of fresh wildflowers, carefully and thoughtfully picked by trained collectors all over the county, and identified and labeled by experienced botanists, will be displayed to admire, study, smell and enjoy. This year the show features a special display of wetland plants.
Visitors will be able to meet wetland plants, from both freshwater and saltwater, without getting wet or muddy. From the tiny, floating duckweed to the large, rooted cattail and the tasty pickleweed, wetland plants will be presented clean and accessible.
The Wildflower Show also provides a chance to compare similar species side-by-side — three species of trillium, four species of gooseberries, many clovers and lupines, several violets.
Visitors may bring samples or photos of mystery wild plants to be identified at the show as well.
Activities that enrich the show include Art Night, Friday May 3rd, 7 to 9 p.m., at which artists of all ages and experience levels are welcome to paint and draw flowers of their choice. Artists Annie Reid and Patty Sennott will be facilitating, as well as making art. Basic art supplies will be provided, or guests can bring their own.
Also, informal lessons on various features of the show will be presented May 4th and May 5th, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on the hour and half-hour. Topics will include violet pollination, invasive plants and the carrot family
